Hello my name is Steve Lam and this is my portfolio. I’m a freelance web designer based in Toronto, ON Canada. I love cats, playing music, valid css/xhtml and generally all things music and design related. My aim is to work with indie artists, musicians and small businesses in achieving frenetic designs while adhering to today’s web standards.

For those who are curious, as an open-source advocate my favourite content management system (cms) is Textpattern!

magento a no-go thus far

1 September 07

So the very first Magento commerce (pre?)beta has finally been released. How am I liking it so far? No idea, as it just won’t seem to install on my local WAMP server. Seems like many others are having little success with it thus far. I suppose this to be expected seeing as it’s the very first beta.

Yet judging by the comments on the Magento blog over the past couple of weeks, an insane amount of people were looking to replace their current e-commerce solutions with unreleased, untested, pre-beta software! Just goes to show some of the brain-washing done by the whole Web 2.0 phenomenon. No one knows what ‘beta’ even means anymore.

Either way I’m looking forward to future releases seeing as Textpattern still does not have a viable e-commerce plugin and a potential work in progress Textcommerce, has gone MIA.

Oh the joys of open source!
